What happens during breast lift surgery?
How Can a Breast Lift Benefit You?
If you are unhappy with the shape of or degree of sagging in your breasts, you may benefit from a breast lift. However, it cannot address breast size.
Typically, breasts are naturally asymmetrical. However, if this difference is especially noticeable, breast lift surgery can improve the balance between your breasts and create a rounder shape.
If your nipple sits below the crease under your breast or if it points downward, a breast lift can shift the nipple back to the proper position on the breast.
If your areolas have become stretched and oversized, they can be adjusted and reduced during a breast lift for more flattering proportions.
Breast Lift Surgery
As women get older, skin elasticity diminishes, causing the breasts to sag and lose their shape. In addition, women who breastfeed their children may find that their once-firm breasts have become droopy. Droopy breasts can also result from significant weight loss. Plastic surgeon Anya Kishinevsky provides patients in Norwalk, Westport, Greenwich, New Canaan, and nearby areas with breast lift surgery to correct sagging breasts and restore their firmness and shape.
Breast Lift Candidates
Women aged 18 and over seeking a remedy for drooping breasts make ideal candidates for breast lift surgery. Women who benefit the most from breast lift surgery are those who have smaller breasts. In addition, the ideal candidate for breast lift surgery is neither pregnant nor breastfeeding, and is not planning to become pregnant or lose a substantial amount of weight. To increase the chances that the breast lift results will last, women who are pregnant or planning to lose a large amount of weight should wait until after the pregnancy or weight loss to undergo breast lift surgery.
The Breast Lift Consultation
Candidates will meet with Dr. Kishinevsky for a consultation to discuss their breast lift surgery expectations and goals. She also takes the time to answer all of her patients' questions and concerns regarding breast lift surgery. Before she performs a breast lift, Dr. Kishinevsky wants to make sure her patients have complete knowledge of the procedure and are relaxed under her care.
Vertical Short Scar Breast Lift Technique
Dr. Kishinevsky is extensively trained in the vertical short scar breast lift technique, which minimizes scarring and recovery time. During this breast lift procedure, a vertical incision is made from the areola down to the breast crease. Excess breast skin is removed to provide the best cosmetic results possible, and the areola is replaced at a higher position before the breast is sutured. When the breast lift is complete, patients not only have firmer, more youthful looking breasts, but scarring is also limited to a single vertical line, which is a more desirable outcome than the larger scars left by other breast lift techniques.
Recovery Following Breast Lift Surgery
Recovery from breast lift surgery takes a substantial amount of time. However, Dr. Kishinevsky provides patients with post-operative breast lift instructions that, when followed correctly, result in a faster healing time.
Swelling and bruising are common during the first few weeks following a breast lift procedure, and patients are advised not to put pressure on their chest or sleep on their stomach. Patients are also advised to sponge bathe until the sutures are removed, and to avoid strenuous activity. Patients can typically return to work a week after breast lift surgery.
Breast lift scars will be noticeable during the first few weeks following surgery, but will gradually fade over time. Patients from Westport, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, and other nearby areas who undergo breast lift at our practice are generally pleased with the outcome. Vertical breast lift surgery results in the least amount of scarring compared to other breast lift techniques.
