Types of Implants

Saline Implants
Saline implants are made up of a silicone outer shell filled with a sterile saltwater solution. They tend to make the breasts look rounder in shape, and are firmer than silicone gel implants. Since they are inserted as empty shells and filled once in place, they require a smaller incision and result in minimal scarring. Some women prefer saline implants for their size flexibility. Dr. Kishinevsky can offer Spectrum™ adjustable breast implants that allow for size modification to a certain degree after placement.

Silicone Implants
Silicone implants are composed of a silicone outer shell filled with a silicone gel. Silicone gel is made to mimic human fat and thus looks and feels closer to natural breast tissue. The risk of leakage is low, and unlike saline implants, they will not collapse if they leak or rupture.

Incision and Breast Implant Placement Techniques
Dr. Kishinevsky will discuss the best surgical method for your breast enlargement needs during your consultation. Breast implants can be placed above or below the chest muscle, and the incision site is determined on a case-by-case basis. There are four techniques available at our practice:
- Inframammary incision (along the breast crease)
- Trans-auxiliary incision (under the arm)
- Periareolar incision (around the areola)
- T.U.B.A. incision (within the navel)
Dr. Kishinevsky always offers the least invasive approach to minimize scarring and provide a faster recovery.

Am I a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
Breast implants can address a variety of concerns, both cosmetic and reconstructive. If you are unhappy with a sagging bust line, you may be better suited for a breast lift, which can also be performed in conjunction with augmentation. Here are some of the main reasons patients choose breast augmentation surgery:
Underdeveloped or Asymmetrical Bust
If you have been unhappy with small or disproportionate breasts your whole life, surgery may help you achieve a fuller, more balanced figure.
Post-Pregnancy Changes
Many women experience a reduction in their breast size following pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing, and wish to restore fullness to their bust.
Restoration Following a Mastectomy
Dr. Kishinevsky performs breast reconstruction and augmentation for patients who have undergone a mastectomy to treat cancer. The procedure restores volume and projection to the areas impacted by surgery.
Transitioning
We are an LGBTQ+ friendly office, and we can help patients who are in the process of transitioning. If achieving a fuller bust is one of your goals, we can provide a safe place for customized surgery.
What to Expect from the Procedure
"We will consider the various sizes, shapes, and types of breast implants available, and develop a customized procedure for you."
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Your recovery from breast augmentation will depend on the type of implant, placement technique, and adherence to post-operative instructions.
Limiting Activities
It is important to limit your physical activities and get plenty of rest in the days immediately following the surgery. Patients can usually return to work one week after the procedure but should avoid strenuous exercise and physical activities for at least one month or until the doctor provides clearance.
Taking Medication as Directed
You can expect breast pain, swelling, and some fatigue during the first few weeks of recovery. The doctor can provide medication to help mitigate any discomfort, if needed.
Wearing a Compression Garment
Patients may be required to wear a compression garment around the chest for approximately six weeks following the breast implant procedure. This will reduce swelling, improve circulation, and provide support to your healing chest.
