Target Trouble Areas with Liposuction
If you have localized areas of fat that are resistant to the effects of dieting and exercise, you may benefit from liposuction. Liposuction is one of the safest ways to get rid of unwanted pockets of fat for individuals who are within 25 pounds of their ideal body weight. Plastic surgeon Anya Kishinevsky provides quality liposuction surgery in her Darien and Fairfield practice for patients who will benefit from subtle contouring, rather than the significant sculpting achieved during abdominoplasty or body lift procedures. For patients with milder concerns, we also offer truSculpt® non-surgical treatment.
Liposuction involves surgically removing fatty tissue from targeted areas of the body through a suction tube called a cannula. During the procedure, Dr. Kishinevsky creates tiny incisions in the skin above the fatty areas of the body that the cannula will target. The suction tube is then inserted into the incision and moved back and forth to break up and suck out fat cells. Up to ten pounds of fat can be removed during liposuction. After the procedure is complete, the incisions are either sutured or left open for better healing and drainage. Leaving the incisions open reduces the amount of bruising and swelling following liposuction surgery. The result is an aesthetically pleasing body contour.
Benefits of Liposuction
Liposuction can dramatically improve your appearance by eliminating stubborn body fat for a smoother and more contoured body shape. This is especially true on the thighs, where cellulite can leave a dimpled appearance. Liposuction is an effective treatment option to reduce the look of "cottage cheese thighs". The procedure not only can improve your appearance, but it can also improve your health. Less fat in the body means less risk for heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and other major health conditions.
The best results following liposuction surgery are achieved by patients who work hard to maintain their new look. Liposuction surgery is not meant to replace a healthy lifestyle. It is important to maintain a good diet and exercise routine after liposuction to prevent weight gain. In fact, patients are three times more likely to gain weight following surgery if they do not modify their eating habits, and four times more likely to gain weight if they fail to change their exercise habits. The most successful liposuction patients use the procedure as a motivational jump-start to a healthier lifestyle.
