What specific issues can rhinoplasty address?

Rhinoplasty can permanently correct cosmetic concerns including bumps or uneven size on the bridge, nasal tip, or nostrils.

Surgery can also address structural issues brought on by traumatic injury, such as a car accident, or congenital issues.

Correcting Deviated Septums

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, deviated septums are one of the most common causes of difficulty breathing. Dr. Kishinevsky in Norwalk, CT, can correct this concern by restoring proper alignment to your nasal structure. We welcome patients from throughout Fairfield and Bridgeport.

Factors to Consider Before Undergoing Surgery

Dr. Kishinevsky can perform rhinoplasty to achieve various goals. Some patients want a straighter nose, while others want one that is larger, smaller, or differently shaped. Dr. Kishinevsky uses a variety of surgical techniques in Norwalk, CT, to address:

  • An excessively bulbous tip
  • A nose that projects too far from your face or seems too large in relation to the rest of your features
  • A crooked bridge
  • A tip that turns upward or downward dramatically
  • A depressed bridge that dips inward toward your face
  • A large bump on the bridge of your nose
  • Nostrils that are too narrow or wide

If you are considering cosmetic surgery, you should:

  • Be unhappy with the function or aesthetics of your nose
  • Be of an age where your nose has stopped developing
  • Maintain realistic, clear expectations
  • Be willing to take time off of work for your recovery
  • Be in good overall health

We Work Hard to Ensure Patients' Comfort

For your comfort and peace of mind, Dr. Kishinevsky performs all rhinoplasties in a private surgical center. With the help of a trusted anesthesiologist, she can ensure that you are comfortably sedated throughout your procedure.

Compared to many other cosmetic procedures, post-surgical discomfort following a rhinoplasty is also minimal. In fact, a study by the American Academy of Otolaryngology found that patients who underwent a rhinoplasty experienced minimal to moderate pain lasting only two to three days

Open vs. closed rhinoplasty

Dr. Kishinevsky performs open and closed rhinoplasties in Norwalk, CT. Both surgical techniques can be used to deliver dramatic results, but Dr. Kishinevsky will determine which approach is right for you based on your unique concerns.

When performed by a skilled surgeon, either technique involves minimal, discreet scarring for patients.

Rhinoplasty can improve the appearance of a crooked or depressed bridge, a nose that projects too far from your face, or a bulbous tip.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

During a pre-operative consultation, Dr. Kishinevsky will ensure that she is fully clear on your goals for the procedure. Before the procedure begins, she will create small markings on your nose to use as a guide during surgery. Our on-site anesthesiologist will administer local anesthesia to numb your nose and the surrounding area and will administer intravenous (IV) sedation. You will begin to feel sleepy and relaxed, but will not be completely asleep so you can still respond to directions.

Once you are fully anesthetized, Dr. Kishinevsky will make incisions inside the nose (closed rhinoplasty) or across the thin strip of skin that separates the nostrils (open rhinoplasty). This will ensure any scarring is completely hidden from view or disguised within the natural contours of your nose.

Through these incisions, Dr. Kishinevsky will begin to make very slight modifications. She may reduce some bone or cartilage from the bridge of your nose, supplement the bridge using transplanted cartilage, or reshape the tip and nostrils. The exact techniques used during your surgery will depend upon your predetermined goals. Once treatment is complete, Dr. Kishinevsky will carefully close the incisions and apply specialized bandages.

Recovery and Aftercare

Rhinoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis, so you will return home to rest following your surgery. In the following days, you will wear a brace and bandages to protect your nose while it begins to heal. After five to seven days, you will return to Dr. Kishinevsky's office to have your bandages removed and evaluate your progress.

You can expect some bruising, swelling, and tenderness in the weeks following your surgery. You will need to refrain from activities in which your nose could be traumatized in any way. Dr. Kishinevsky will instruct you on when you can return to your normal activities and begin exercising.

While initial swelling from the procedure should fade within a few weeks, it may take up to a year before you see the final results of your surgery. This is especially true if you require open-technique rhinoplasty. During the recovery period, you should notice gradual changes as the swelling continues to subside.

Aging will have an effect on the results of your procedure, but the changes made during rhinoplasty should remain relatively consistent as time passes. It is important to maintain proper sun protection and a healthy lifestyle to prevent changes to the new appearance of your nose.

Nonsurgical Alternatives

If you have only minor aesthetic concerns or do not feel ready for surgery, Dr. Kishinevsky may be able to help you reach your goals using dermal fillers. She can improve the shape of your nose by injecting fillers into an area affected by injury, a crooked nasal tip, or a flattened nasal bridge. That being said, fillers cannot be used to create a smaller nose or improve your breathing. It is also important to understand that results provided by dermal fillers are only temporary. If you want more extensive and permanent changes, rhinoplasty may be your only option.
