Young girl's side profile after otoplasty procedure

Otoplasty

Feeling that your ears are misshapen, too big or small, or protruding can heavily impact your self-image.

Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery used to reshape the ears and achieve a more desirable appearance.

Anya Kishinevsky, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon offering transformative ear surgery to both children and adults in Norwalk, CT.

What Is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that improves the shape, size, and position of your ears. During an otoplasty procedure, a surgeon adjusts the tissue and cartilage of the outer ear to give protruding or misshapen ears a subtler or more natural look. Dr. Kishinevsky is a surgeon who has been providing outstanding otoplasty results since 2006.

A Glowing Review From an Otoplasty Patient

"After being self conscious for over 25 years, I finally decided to get an otoplasty... I am now 7 months post-op and could not be more thrilled with the results. I would not hesitate for a second to recommend Dr. Kishinevsky to any friend or family member." Lindsey Smith

Is My Child a Candidate for Otoplasty?

Both children and adults can feel self-conscious about the shape of their ears. Choosing an early cosmetic intervention for your child can help them enjoy an improved sense of appearance and confidence to carry them into adolescence and adulthood. Your child may be a good candidate for otoplasty at our Norwalk, CT, medical practice if they are in good overall health and have:

  • Disproportionately large ears
  • Unusually shaped ears
  • Pointed ears
  • Protruding ears

Dr. Kishinevsky typically waits until children are at least five years old before performing ear surgery to be certain that the cartilage has had time to develop. During your personalized consultation, Dr. Kishinevsky will explain additional candidacy requirements, the otoplasty preparation process, and what to expect from surgery in a way both you and your child can understand. Dr. Anya Kishinevsky is fluent in Russian, French, and Hebrew, and conversational in Spanish.

What Happens in a Typical Otoplasty Procedure?

Relaxing Anesthesia

To ensure your comfort and relaxation, our medical team will administer local anesthesia. Depending on the extent of surgery, general anesthesia may also be administered.

Subtle Incision

Dr. Kishinevsky will make careful incisions to change the size or shape of your ear. Incisions are placed on the back of the ear or between cartilage folds whenever possible to minimize noticeable scarring.

Closing the Treatment Site

After reshaping your ear, Dr. Kishinevsky will use sutures to close the treatment area. She will dress your ear with protective bandages to secure it in a safe position and guard the surgical site.

Recovery

Once your surgery is complete, Dr. Kishinevsky will provide personalized instruction on how to best care for your healing ear. You will then be discharged from our Norwalk, CT, practice to begin your recovery. You can expect follow-up visits to monitor your recovery and eventually remove each suture.
