Brow Lift Side Effects
Most patients who are preparing to undergo brow lift surgery are eager to learn about the side effects they can expect following treatment. There are a number of symptoms that a patient may experience in the days and weeks after brow lift surgery. Fortunately, most side effects are not very severe, and they should resolve on their own fairly quickly. Below are some of the most common brow lift side effects that patients experience:
- Discomfort: Although most patients do no experience significant pain, it is normal to feel some discomfort, particularly around the site of surgical incisions. In addition to using prescribed pain medication as directed, patients can use ice packs to alleviate discomfort. Within a week, most patients notice a marked improvement in the way they feel.
- Bruising and swelling: The most visibly noticeable side effects of brow lift surgery are bruising and swelling. Even though a brow lift alters the skin and muscles at and above the brow line, bruising and swelling may extend down to the cheeks. It can take several weeks for bruising and swelling to resolve completely, but after the first week of recovery, these symptoms are usually only apparent to the patient.
- Numbness and tingling: The skin around the incision site and along the scalp tends to feel different after brow lift surgery. Many people describe a tingling or numbing sensation. This can last for several days. As the body heals, the numbing will probably be replaced with itching. By the second week of recovery, most patients report that the skin feels normal again.
How Long Does Recovery Last?
It takes several weeks for the body to fully recover from brow lift surgery, and for the final results of treatment to settle in. However, the initial recovery phase is much shorter. Obvious side effects of brow lift recovery should not last more than seven to 10 days.
Once side effects have improved, most people feel well enough to return to work and other regular routines. As a precaution, patients should avoid strenuous activities, such as aerobic activities and heavy lifting, for at least six weeks.
